(OOTD)(WLW) More and More for Micklegate!

Good Evening!

Well I am about to attempt the marble nails again shortly, but first I thought I would share my OOTD and a special WLW that's close to my heart.

So we'll start with the outfit, once again we have had beautiful sunshine, so I completely took advantage of this!

Boob Tube- New Look Sale
Maxi Skirt- Select, £8
Shoes- China Town, New York (mentioned yesterday!)

And for accessories...

Peace Rosary- Matalan, £2.50
Medallion Necklace- Gift a few years ago

So there we have it for my summery outfit, now for a Web-Link Wednesday.

As I have previously mentioned, the Queen is visiting York on the 5th April as part of her Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, and to deliver the Maundy Money. The royal entrance to York is Micklegate, and this is where the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be 'invited' into the city. This is going to be a big day for Micklegate. They are hosting a street fair with many live acts throughout the day, (I hope the weather holds out!). There will also be a fashion event, that I am involved in, that I will be blogging about on the day.

But Micklegate itself has been through a pretty tough time of late. A series of shop closures and the loss of some pretty long-standing businesses on the street has lead to Micklegate becoming a little forgotten. Even residents of York have admitted they don't visit the area often, whereas areas such as Gillygate and Fossgate seem to thrive. So what's wrong with Micklegate?

The answer is, well, nothing really, it just needs some love. Micklegate boasts several hair, beauty and nail salons, some lovely pubs and restaurants, and some great boutiques. It's a lovely friendly street and it really deserves some more attention.

Luckily the Micklegate Quarter has been set up, to promote Micklegate as the exciting destination that it is. Yes, there are a few shops empty, yes, 'it's not what it used to be', but there are some great businesses that people are missing out on by not visiting.

Hopefully the celebrations for the Queen will help people to recognise Micklegate as the pampering and shopping destination that it so clearly is, but that people currently fail to see.

So for more information about Micklegate and how to get there, (you best be early on 5th April if you want a good spot!), then please visit http://www.micklegatequarter.co.uk/

And with that, we'll hopefully see you on the 5th :)

(WLW) Marble Nails, first attempt! And some naughty fruit!

Good Evening!

So today I decided to have a go at the marble nails that I linked to in my post on Monday.

Believe me, this is a messy task, I was covered in it at first. I nearly gave up, but decided to look for Youtube tutorials and found Simple Little Pleasues and her amazing water marble tutorials, and suddenly everything in Chloe's tutorial made sense. I think sometimes you have to see something to fully understand it. I didn't realise I had to fully dunk the nail into the water, rather than sitting it on the top, and that you could do more than one nail at once to save on polish. I probably wasted a lot of product, but once I got the hang I don't think you use much more than if you were painting your nails. Anyway, here is what I used, and the results...

Collection 200 Top Coat, Barry M NP 308, Models Own Beth's Blue,  Natural Collection Antique Coral
I started with a base coat of Beth's Blue and then started the marbling! I dunked the three middle fingers together, and the pinkie and thumb together. The latter is a little fiddly, because you need to use quite a small pot to stop the polish from moving around in the water. And make sure you use room temperature filtered water, seriously, filtered people!

My Mess! Oh and use a cocktail stick instead of a pencil.
So I am pleased with the results, but I would say that more opaque colours work better, so next time I will probably be likely to use either Barry M or Models Own rather than Natural Collection, as they seem to be quite thin.

On to Web-Link Wednesday now, and I am very excited to tell you about Two Bad Bananas, from the same creator of the lovely TwoPenny Lane range. Two Bad Banana's is some of the cutest, loveliest, adorable-est (yes, it is a word!) jewellery I have seen! I will let the pictures do the talking...

As you know,  I love Panda's!

And I am a Mario Geek!

The Two Bad Banana's Themselves, Frank and Terry!

I picked these last two to show you for their unbelievable cuteness!

So Frank, Terry and their cute-i-ful friends can be found at http://www.etsy.com/shop/twobadbananas, where there is also more information about their lovely creator Cat, and about Frank and Terry's life ambitions, they sounds like an exciting bunch, (bunch...get it!). And if anyone would like to buy me a gift, I love everything, especially the Panda's!

Anyway folks that's all for tonight, but I will leave you with a question (or two)...

Did you watch The Apprentice? Do you agree with who was fired? (I do, she wouldn't bloody shut up!)

G'night!

(WLW) March Glossy Box and Pretty Nails

Good Evening!

So I see that everyone has been enjoying the York Does Vintage post, and I am thrilled! I want to say thanks so much to everyone who has read, shared, commented and retweeted the post. It really does mean a lot.

So tonight I want to show you what came in this months Glossy Box: The Harrods Edition...

Booklet that came in the parcel

The first thing I pulled out of the box was this Shu Uemura cleansing beauty oil. I am interested in trying this, because I have heard good things about facial oils, but I am a bit worried about using them because I do have quite oily skin. This one claims to be a "3-in-1 cleanser, make-up remover and eye make-up remover, that leaves skin soft, balanced and non-oily." This time the Glossy Box card does not tell you how much a full size version of the product would be, so if I am impressed I will have to do some research.

Next is the SKII Skin Signature, an anti-aging moisturiser. Now, at 22, I don't really consider myself as old, but I am interested to give this a try. I just want to see if it makes any difference to my skin, so we'll see...

I am in love with this perfume! It smells beautiful. I am not sure how much a full size bottle of Valentina costs, but I am going to investigate, because I think this is gorgeous!

I am looking forward to giving this product a try. I am very attached to my Clinque mascara, and haven't used a different one in ages. But I am prepared to give this a try.

I didn't get the Clarins products in the February box so I am pleased to see I have one this month. I like moisturisers so I am quite excited to try this, although I do have quite sensitive skin, and I find that some moisturisers sting me (yes I am that sensitive!). But I will let you know how I get on.

The smell of this Molton Brown Shower Gel is lovely. It says on the card that its filled with fruit extracts, but I think it smells more herby, like the Davines products in the January Box (I think?) I love receiving shower gels in my Glossy Box's :)

So there we have it for this month's Glossy Box. I am quite happy with it, I am slightly disappointed I didn't get a Burberry Lipstick, that I have seen in other boxes, but I am still happy with my lot.

On another note, I finally got round to painting my nails again the other night...

(the lighting is a bit pink because of her bedside lamp)

TopShop Mermaid with Sally Hansen Disco ball over the top on the ring fingers. This has already chipped a lot, I only painted them Monday. But I think that is my fault for using cuticle oil and not leaving it long enough before painting them.

Finally it's time for Web-Link Wednesday, just got one this week. York University Vintage is a new group looking to set up a Vintage Society at York University. I think this is a great idea, I think promotion of vintage is a great thing, and gives people an alternative to the high street. It also gives the opportunity to be involved in events, other than the typical boozy student kind! I just really hope they decide to allow non-uni members!!

Anyway, that is it for tonight, I am feeling a bit rubbishy today so I think it's time for some sleep.

Until next time :)

(OOTD's)(WLW) An unexpected treasure of a shop!

Evening all!

I hope everyone is well. I just got my iPhone 4S today so have been asking Siri lots of questions! I am loving it so far!

So the first OOTD is for the House of Colour event I attended last night. It is always an interesting event, and it's nice to show the Bill Baber collection to prospective customers. And the lovely bonus was a fabulous meal at the Olive Tree in York! Anyway, here is the outfit:

Turtle Neck- Primark, £4
Tunic- Bill Baber, around £49 in sale
Scarf- Primark, £4 I think
Leggings- Primark, £6

Swallow Necklace- Miss Selfridge, £2
Feather Earrings- Miss Selfridge, £2
Binocular Bag- Primark, £3
Seahorse Bangle- Primark, I think it was around £2 last summer

So today while I was waiting for my phone contract to be sorted out, I went for a little wander. I went to Boots intending to order my Chanel Les Ombres Eye Palette, but unfortunately the one I am after was out of stock. I have been saving all my points since I first got the card, and I now only have to pay £4 towards my palette! I can't wait! Anyway, while I was there I was admiring the nails of the lady who was serving me. I was expecting her to point me to somewhere in Boots that I could buy the nail varnish. Instead she pointed me to a shop called 'Zest' that was just over the road.

For those who are in the York area this shop is near Superdrug in the centre, pretty much next-door to Thomas the Baker, opposite TK Maxx, (if you can't find it now I give up!).

They don't currently have a website, but its in the pipeline. When they get one I suggest EVERYONE has a look. This shop is an Aladdin's cave of beauty products and perfumes. I have never seen anything like it! I have been after some cheap and cheerful glitter polishes for a while, and now I have ended up with 4!...

Top Left- Star Gazer in colour 146, £1.99
Top Right- Saffron London in colour 03, 99p
Bottom Left- La Femme Beauty in colour Sapphire 18 (I think that's what it says, it's very hard to read on the bottle), 99p
Bottom Right- Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in colour Disco Ball, £1.50

Can you actually believe those prices?!?! Especially the Sally Hansen one! They also had Calvin Klein Nail Varnishes for around £2, and fine line nail pens for similar prices. I will definitely be going here again, not just for nail varnishes, but for make up and perfume too!

I also ended up in Poundworld, and picked up a couple of bits and pieces. I am always pleasantly surprised with the variety of things you can find in there.

The first thing I picked up were a couple of these Lilac scented candles. I couldn't leave them there, they smell beautiful :) I am looking forward to lighting these in my room. I am working through my candle collection, but they make nice ornaments anyway :)

I also spotted this lilac and lavender oil, it smells divine! I just need to find an oil burner now! I got two packs of this, as there was only two left, and I love lavender a lot!

Continuing with the lavender theme, I got these incense sticks. I hope these smell as nice as everything else, I haven't opened them yet!

So I also picked up the usual chocolate and bits and pieces that are always cheap and cheerful in Poundlands / Poundworlds. Not that exciting really.

And here's today's OOTD...

Jacket- Ark, £15
Cream T-Shirt- TopShop, £12 in sale
Coral Vest- H&M, £4
Leggings- Primark, £6 (I am seriously in love with these leggings!)
Peace Rosary Necklace- Matalan, £2.50

Finally, I know it's no longer Wednesday, but it's very important that I do one this week, to make you aware of my lovely best friend Sam's Blog- Pi is Good But Pie is Better. Sam studies maths, and likes to bake, hence the title of this blog. She's going to be posting pictures and recipes of her wonderful creations, don't worry, I think the only maths will be the quantities of the ingredients! Anyway, give her some support and have a look, you never know, you might see something you want to try yourself. Believe me, it tastes as good as it looks!

The other website that you should have a look at, especially if you are an vintage lover is The Vintage Emporium's site. I visited the shop the other day, (I posted about it), and their website tells you a bit more about the shop, and how they are developing their website for sales. This shop sells vintage wedding dresses too, so if you are looking for something a bit different, this could be the place for you. Anyway, take a look, the layout of the website is lovely!

That's all for today. Got my interview tomorrow, so wish me luck!

EDIT: I got instagram! Follow me on @lucyslilworld :)

(OOTD) (WLW) Another (smaller) Everything5Pounds.com Haul!

Good evening!

Right, after another lousy night's sleep I am going to get things done earlier in the evening so I can chill out!

So here's the OOTD:

Cardigan- Eveything5Pounds.com
Black T-shirt- Bay, years ago
Leggings- Select £3 post Xmas Sale

Just been lazing around and getting some college work done, so wanted something comfy, and this fit the bill nicely.

So another exciting box from everything5pounds.com arrived today. There was a lot less in this one, and one thing I can't show because it's a mothers day present and I know she sometimes reads my blog (Hi Mum!)

So here is the first of the two things I can show. I just HAD to have this jumper, I think it's amazing, and I can't believe how soft it is! It's like cashmere. Unbelievable quality for £5. I got the M/L and I am glad because this fits brilliantly.

Woof!
And the next item is the reason I made the order in the first place. I saw these boots on the Everything 5 Pounds Facebook Page and I had to get a pair. I love the colour and the chain detail. These boots go above and beyond my expectations, I can not believe how soft they are! The heel is a perfect height, as you know I am not brilliant in heels but I feel confident in wearing these. I went back on the website to try and order these in other colours but they have completely sold out! I am not surprised at all, for £5 I wish I had ordered the others now!

So a very small haul, but I was excited non-the-less. I am once again pleased with the speed of the delivery and the quality from this company and I will definitely be shopping there again.

Has anyone else used everything5pounds.com? What did you think?

I'm at work tomorrow, so will be spending some time tweaking the blog banner and things, so keep an eye out!

G'night!

Edit: I for got to do my Web-Link Wednesday! I would like to draw your attention to Jessicas Butterflies, a charity promoting awareness of losing a young child. This charity is run by a friend of a friend and she recommended that I take a look at the regular auctions that they organise to raise money for the organisation. One of the auctions has just finished but no doubt there will be more. There were some great things on there so it's definitely worth a look. So please, like the page, and keep looking out for further auctions, there are some great bargains. It's a great cause too, the story of how the charity came to be is very moving. So yeah, like and share :)
